What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump today joined Sens. Tom Cotton and David Perdue for an announcement on creating a more skills-based immigration system.

What the White House Press Corps is Talking About:
Trump signed the Russia sanctions bill, but did so without calling the pool to gather and photograph. Also, according to vague second-hand sources, Trump reportedly called the White House "a real dump," as reported by a new Sports Illustrated feature. A Trump spokesperson denies the statement happened.

But First, (No) Tweets:
Guys, it's noon and no negative tweets from @realDonaldTrump. Is this Gen. Kelly thing working?
🚨 James Comey Has Signed a Book Deal🚨 :
James Comey made a deal with Flatiron Books to write "a book about leadership and decision-making that will draw upon his career in government." An NYT story cites sources with knowledge of the deal as saying bidding topped the $2 million mark. He'll apparently write about the Hillary Clinton email scandal, as well as his insight on what went down with Trump and the whole Russia investigation situation. The book isn't titled yet, and it's due in the spring.

Back to the Dump Thing:
Trump allegedly said this to a group of members at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club as an explanation as to why he spends so much time there instead of at the White House. A spokesman for the President denied to Sports Illustrated that Trump said it, and, to be clear, CNN has not independently verified any parts of the feature. Still, the "dump," line has already taken off into meme-world, even spawning a #notadump hashtag, and a ubiquitous @PeteSouza Instagram counterpunch. However, aside from the dump controversy, the piece also states that the President insists on driving his own cart, and, yes, he does drive on the greens -- and sometimes even the tee boxes 😲. Also that he wants to be buried at Bedminster and has petitioned for a cemetery plot. And that he has a cottage that he stays in next to the pool that now has a wall around it. And, my personal favorite tidbit from this story of tidbits, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gifted Trump with a golden driver:

Ivanka Trump, 2.0-ish:
The reboot of Ivanka Trump continues today with another event led by the President's daughter and adviser. She'll be at a listening session with military spouses. Yesterday, she led a discussion about small businesses, where she said "we are committed to supporting the American worker."

Our Daily Melania:
Welp, it's once again going to be a while before we likely see and/or hear from the first lady -- she's lying low most of August, a White House source tells me, spending time with Barron Trump before school starts. In the meantime, we can read about how she maybe (the White House hasn't confirmed to me just yet) was involved in picking the to-be-announced US ambassador to Slovenia, a GOP donor businesswoman from Orange County named Kelly Roberts.
General Kelly Has a Burger, and It's Dumb:
Sometimes just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you should. Case in point this new burger named after John Kelly. The copy writer went to town. It's available at Community in Bethesda.

Another reason not to do this is that other restaurants will soon copy the concept and come up with their own dishes -- like "The Mooch," with meatballs.

What Washington is Talking About:
Defense Secretary James Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will brief the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today in a closed session about new authorization for the war on ISIS. And last night, the Senate confirmed Chris Wray as FBI Director.

What America is Talking About:
The two-year-old who fist-bumped his way down the aisle on a recent Southwest flight.

What Silicon Valley is Talking About:
Apple stock has reached a record high, with sales of iPhones, Macs, iPads, and Apple Watches up. On a conference call with investors, CEO Tim Cook said the company has sold 1.2 billion iPhones.

What Hollywood is Talking About:
The FBI is now investigating a cyberattack against HBO that may have compromised about seven times more data than was stolen in the 2014 Sony hack.

Poll of the Day:
Thirty-four percent of Americans say they have conservative views on social issues, and 30% say they have liberal views, per Gallup.

Coming Soon to the Health Care Debate: Bipartisanship?:
Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander announced yesterday that the Senate health committee will hold bipartisan hearings in September on how to stabilize the individual health insurance market. That's at odds with President Trump's call for Obamacare to "implode." But Alexander said in a statement, "If your house is on fire, you want to put out the fire, and the fire in this case is the individual health insurance market. Both Republicans and Democrats agree on this."

Boy Scouts Dispute Trump Claim:
During an interview with the Wall Street Journal, a reporter asked President Trump about the "mixed" reaction to his speech at the Boy Scout Jamboree. He responded saying, "I got a call from the head of the Boy Scouts saying it was the greatest speech that was ever made to them ... there was no mix," according to a transcript published by Politico.

But the Boy Scouts told Time they're unaware of the call Trump alleges happened ... 🤔

"Good Boy":
That's how Trump described Jared Kushner during that same WSJ interview. He thanked the the paper's editor-in-chief for a recent editorial and said, "You did a good job. He's a good -- he's a good boy."

J-Kush on Middle East Peace:
So audio of that off-the-record convo between Kushner and Congressional interns I mentioned in yesterday's issue has leaked in full. You can listen to it here (Jared speaks! Again!). Here's what he said on peace in the Middle East: "So, what do we offer that's unique? I don't know … I'm sure everyone that's tried this has been unique in some ways, but again we're trying to follow very logically."

Schock Lawyers: Investigators Asking Qs About Sex Life, Orientation:
Attorney's for former Rep. Aaron Schock, 36, say federal investigators have questioned witnesses about his sexual orientation and who he's slept with ... which has to do with what exactly relating to whether he misused funds?

"The government has investigated nearly every facet of Mr. Schock's professional, political, and personal life. This even includes his sex life," a court filing from his attorney's read. "The government's inquiries into Mr. Schock's sexuality and romantic relationships were not just distasteful and offensive. They were prejudicial."

Booker Calls for Legalized Pot Nationwide:
Sen. Cory Booker, 48, has introduced the Marijuana Justice Act, which would legalize marijuana at a federal level and provide incentives for states with laws that disproportionately affect people because of their income or race to change their laws.

"Our country's drug laws are badly broken and need to be fixed," he said, introducing the bill. Chances of it actually passing under an anti-marijuana attorney general and Republican-controlled Congress? I'd say slim to none. But an October Gallup poll found 60% of Americans support legalization.

NAACP Issues First-Ever Travel Advisory for a State:
It's for Missouri. "You have violations of civil rights that are happening to people," said Rod Chapel, president of the Missouri NAACP, according to the Kansas City Star. "They're being pulled over because of their skin color, they're being beaten up or killed. We are hearing complaints at a rate we haven't heard before."

On The Road:
Lady Gaga opened her Joanne World Tour last night in Vancouver. She'll be in Washington on November 19. And Kesha yesterday announced the Rainbow Tour 2017, her first solo tour since 2013. She'll play Silver Spring, Maryland on October 6.
