What the White House Is Talking About:
President Donald Trump's speech today at the UN General Assembly.

What the White House Press Corps Is Talking About:
Obsessing over Trump's use of the descriptor "Rocket Man" for Kim Jong Un. Also trying to determine whether Trump does intend to walk away from the Iran nuclear deal.

Speech Highlights:
Trump said the United States would have no choice but to "totally destroy" North Korea if threatened. And he went back to using the term "radical Islamic terrorism." Another part catching headlines is when the President bluntly stated some parts of the world are "going to hell." Catch up on all of it here.

CNN Learns US Wiretapped Paul Manafort:
Whoa. The US government electronically monitored Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, for months as part of its ongoing investigation into potentially compromising dealings between Manafort and Russia.

Donald Trump Jr No Longer Wants Secret Service Protection:
In a move the Secret Service is objecting to as a matter of safety, Donald Trump Jr. has requested scaled-back protection for himself. It's unclear if the agency has agreed to the move, but CNN reports he traveled to the Bahamas in June without Secret Service protection.
You Know What Was Different About Trump? Pocket Square:
He rarely wears one, but today the President decided to add a crisp, white handkerchief, peeking out of his suit pocket. Well played, I say.

It reminded me of the composite makeover GQ did back in January, which I think is actually not a bad look for Trump. Apologies if this creeps you out.

Ivanka Trump taped 'Dr. Oz':
According to the New York Post's Page Six, Ivanka Trump apparently spent part of Monday taping an episode of "Dr. Oz," where she talked about Hillary Clinton's new book, joked about taking over her father's Twitter account and admitted she battled postpartum depression after the birth of her oldest child, Arabella. It seems from this account a surprisingly personal interview for the first daughter, who could be in image rehab mode after a couple of rocky months inside the White House.

Melania Trump Billboard Taken Down:
The first lady was being used to promote a language school in Croatia. The school put up a billboard with a photograph of Melania Trump and the caption, "Just imagine how far you can go with a little bit of English." Apparently, Trump has a Slovenian attorney who keeps track of the illegal use of her image; using the first lady's face on everything from ads to cakes is a popular practice in her native Slovenia. The lawyer has already told the private Croatian language school to take down the billboards and similar Facebook ads, and the school has done so.
Don't Stand Near Ben Carson When He's Eating Cake:
Maybe? I'm obsessed with this photo of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson blowing out the candles on one of his two birthday cakes Monday -- because his staff is standing at a safe distance behind him and it feels a little lonely? On the plus side, kudos to whoever hung the decorations in a perfect symmetry to where Carson would be seated. Carson turned 66.

Dress Like the First Lady:
Today for her husband's UN speech, I'm pretty sure Melania Trump went with this Calvin Klein 205W39NYC label double-breasted, houndstooth jacket, with a price tag of $1,995. She also appears to be wearing the matching $895 slacks, but they're already sold out here.

What Washington Is Talking About:
President Trump's attorney Michael Cohen was supposed to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee today, but it didn't happen. Sens. Richard Burr and Mark Warner said it was because he released a public statement beforehand.

What America Is Talking About:
Toys 'R' Us has filed for bankruptcy.

Poll of the Day:
The Republicans and GOP-leaning Americans that Trump is losing support among are young and college-educated, according to Gallup data analyzed by CNN. Although his approval rating has improved somewhat since a tumultuous August, it hasn't fully recovered, and those younger than 50 and college-educated are less likely to approve of the job he's doing than those older than 50 without a college education.

Military Option:
The United States is considering shooting down missiles from North Korea that don't pose a direct threat, an official told CNN. This comes after North Korea has shot two missiles over Japan.

Are We Finally Getting an Ambassador to Russia?:
It was all the way back in March when we first learned former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. accepted Trump's offer to serve as ambassador to Russia. He's finally testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today. His family was in the audience, including daughter and Fox News host Abby, and his wife, Mary Kaye, shared this photo of the two before the hearing.

Huntsman opened his comments by calling out Russia for restricting "the human rights of its own people" and saying that "there is no question" it interfered in the 2016 election. If Huntsman is confirmed, it will be his third ambassadorship; his first was to Singapore under H.W., and his second was to China under Obama.

How the Clintons Helped Comet Ping Pong:
Hillary Clinton spoke Monday with Lissa Muscatine, the co-owner of Politics and Prose, the northwest Washington bookstore that's near pizza restaurant Comet Ping Pong. Muscatine told the audience that several days after a gunman entered the restaurant with a firearm chasing a bizarre, false conspiracy theory that it was a front for a Clinton-connected sex ring, the Clintons bought pizzas to show their support and sent them to a Washington after-school literacy program. "I just can't tell you how important it was for ... our entire block, for the people at Comet to know that you and President Clinton were there for us, quietly," Muscatine said.

Tucker Carlson's Sorry for What He Said to That Teen Vogue Writer:
Carlson gets the GQ profile treatment in its October issue and said of his December issue with Teen Vogue writer Lauren Duca, "I was kind of rude to her. Okay, I'm sorry that I did that." Still, he said, "This was something where this woman didn't have an argument, didn't have superior knowledge, wasn't impressive."

Five Songs that Influenced 'Morning Joe':
In the September 21 issue of Rolling Stone, Joe Scarborough shares some songs that influenced him, pegged to his "Mystified" EP. The magazine, by the way, is up for sale by Wenner Media, which has already sold Us Weekly and Men's Fitness to the pro-Trump National Enquirer owner American Media. Can you imagine if it buys RS, too? Among the songs Scarborough picked were the Stones' "Gimme Shelter" (they "stopped chasing the Beatles") and the Beach Boys' "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" (a dark song on a largely "uplifting" album).

🐸Pepe Watch🐸:
Pepe the Frog creator Matt Furie has served cease-and-desist orders to various online right and white supremacist personalities, including alt right founder Richard Spencer, to stop using his cartoon, according to Vice. Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown requests were also sent to sites, including Reddit, where Pepe is popular on certain subreddits such as /r/The_Donald.

This morning, /r/The_Donald had a "Constitution Pepe" with an eagle instead of a frog on the top of the page, and users were criticizing the takedown campaign. "They can't censor all of us!!!They can't take our Pepes away from us!!!Resist!!!" user TrumpetkaTrumpolska wrote.
