5 street foods you need to try in Tokyo

Grab a bite out of Tokyo. 7/27/19

Travel to Tokyo with us on a foodie journey as we discover some of the best bites Japan has to offer. From a gyoza gone giant to a fish you can eat for dessert, explore the city's eclectic, exciting, ever-growing street food scene. Hope you're hungry.

Tokyo's Stir-Fried Yakisoba Master

Masaji Iino knows yakisoba. He has been making the stir-fried noodle dish for 31 years and serves it at Apetaito, his shop in Tokyo. He boils the noodles first, then fries them to crispy perfection on the griddle. It's there that dish truly comes together—Iino adds bean sprouts, scallions and meat to the mix as well as his original sauce.

Fish for Dessert? Yes, When It's the Japanese Treat Taiyak

It's like a croissant, but it's taiyaki. This doughy treat was invented in Tokyo in the late 1800s, and it's shaped like a fish. Hidetoshi has been making taiyaki at his shop in Tokyo for 15 years and infuses the traditional snack with a variety of yummy fillings, including custard, matcha and chocolate. The most popular filling? Red bean paste. We're hooked.

Gyoza Gone Giant

Gyoza is good. Giant gyoza is even better. People come from all over to eat giant gyoza at this restaurant in Tokyo's Shibuya neighborhood.

Okonomiyaki of the Sea

Love okonomiyaki? And seafood, too? Well, you can have the best of both worlds at Okonomiyaki Hiroki.
