But First, Tweets: Hurricane not top of mind for @realDonaldTrump this morning, but it was for @FLOTUS

Mnuchin's Eclipse Spot: He watched it from the front lawn of Fort Knox

What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump depart this afternoon for a weekend at Camp David. It will be their second time visiting the Maryland getaway.

What the White House Press Corps is Talking About:
How Trump will handle Hurricane Harvey preparedness and response.
Briefing today is at 1:45 ET with Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

But First, Tweets:
The hurricane was not on the list of things the President chose to tweet first about this morning in his early round of social media bluster, waiting until 11:46 a.m. ET, to broach the topic in a tweet that began with the word "I" ...

Our Daily Melania:
... However, the hurricane was top of mind for Melania Trump, who tweeted her hope for safety and expressed thoughts and prayers to people in Harvey's path. Yet another example of FLOTUS' Twitter independence, in both content and voice, from her husband.
The President of France is Really, Really Into His Face:
It was reported yesterday that French President Emmanuel Macron has spent about $30,600 on his makeup needs in the first three months of his time in office. I mean, I'm guilty of some fairly intense Sephora binges, but this is, well, incroyable. Also, Macron's only 39 years old. How much is there to cover up? I looked at the most recent pictures of him (see one from today below), and I can tell he goes super-heavy on the foundation; I also detect eyebrow touch-ups, and possible mascara. Check it:

Mnuchin Watched the Eclipse in Front of A Bunch of Gold:
The Washington Post confirmed Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Sen. Mitch McConnell watched the eclipse Monday from the lawn of Fort Knox, which houses more than $200 billion in gold. While we don't know for certain if his Instagram-posting wife, Louise Linton, was watching with him, the element of a visit to a spot in the country with prime viewing, and lots of gold, is the coda on this week's most captivating story. Mnuchin actually tweeted afterward, "Glad gold is safe!" Never change, 2017. Or, do.

Ivanka Trump, Beloved by The Children:
Serious question: What's weirder, that Ivanka posts herself reading fan mail, or that her mail is from children?

Anthony Scaramucci Continues to Try to Laugh Off National Humiliation:
I've noticed The Mooch is really into making jokes on his Twitter feed -- mainly jokes about himself and his brief tenure as White House communications director. Here's the one from today.

'Sup With Pence's Bunny?:
Marlon Bundo, the Pence family rabbit who has his own Instagram account, posted last night that he has some big news he can't yet reveal. I don't know about you guys, but I'm on pins and needles. I actually care about this more than I do about Taylor Swift's new song (sorry, Hunter.)

FIGHT WEEKEND:
Guys, it's finally here. Tomorrow night is the big fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. I know the line is crazy, but my money's on McGregor. And even if he loses, he'll walk with more cash from one night than in his entire UFC career. Are you going to watch?

What Washington is Talking About:
President Trump is wrapping up his week with zero tweets attacking congressional Democrats and six attacking congressional Republicans.

What America is Talking About:
Cities on the Texas coast have begun evacuating ahead of Hurricane Harvey, which is expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday.

Poll of the Day:
37% of Americans ages 18 to 29 have outstanding student loan debt, according to a Pew survey. The median amount of debt is $17,000.

Jeff Flake Thinks Trump is 'Inviting' a 2020 Primary Challenge:
That's what he said this week on a Georgia Public Broadcasting show. "The direction he's headed right now, just kinda drilling down on the base rather than trying to expand the base -- I think he's inviting" a primary, Flake said.

Bret Baier Wants Trump to Talk to Fox NEWS:
The "Special Report" host said in a statement that "virtually all of the interviews President Trump has granted to Fox News in the last 300 days" have been with the network's opinion side, and his staff has been trying every week since the election to try to get an interview, according to Business Insider. Baier promised "tough but fair questions" if he got a sit down.

This Interview with 'Duck Dynasty' Star Korie Robertson, Man:
It's emotional. She teared up talking to CNN about Charlottesville:

"These are just men that look like your neighbors standing up there and just spewing this amount of hate for people because of their skin color or their nationality or any of that, and it's so counter to Jesus' teachings and the way we're supposed to be."

Here's what she said about Trump's response:

"It was shocking and scary, the fact that it didn't feel like he was willing to call them out. ... I don't know how you can say there are good people that are marching with torches and shouting Nazi slogans, wearing Hitler shirts, spewing all amount of hate."
The New VMA Logo Was Done By an Agency with a Clinton Campaign Connection:
The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards are Sunday, and the show has a series of new logos created by the agency OCD and MTV's in-house team. Jennifer Kinon, the former design director for Hillary for America, was the one of the design partners on the project.

Here's the logo, with a symmetrical structure OCD said "allows it to easily transform into countless permutations" and house other images within it:

And here's how it looks IRL, incorporating pop-stars-as-astronauts, including host Katy Perry, and the tagline, "Brace For History":

The branding "celebrates MTV's iconic logo and forges a wholly-new, made-to-be-dynamic mark just for the VMAs," OCD said, something that reminds me a lot of the Clinton campaign's branding.

The Clinton 2016 look felt like a continuation of the Obama look, with a clear, sans-serif font, that "Obama blue" color, and a one-letter logo. It could also be constantly reimagined and repurposed to follow the news or speak to different audiences.

Kinon spoke to Fast Company last August about how a member of her social media team offered an idea for a social graphic -- "Love Trumps Hate" -- after Trump's Muslim ban proposal. "We sat down and played with the typography and the color, then tweeted it out," she said, and it went onto become one of the defining slogans of the campaign.

I'll be live-tweeting the VMAs Sunday (they're my fav awards show, fyi), so follow along @hunterschwarz, if you want to watch with me.

Watch 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' Streams Follow the Eclipse Across America:
Spotify popped up this map showing peak streams of the Bonnie Tyler hit Monday that roughly follow the path of totality. Spins of the song jumped 3,521% in the US, and those who listened to any version of the song listened to it an average of six times that day, according to the company. Shout-out to New Hampshire and Vermont, which were spinning the song all day long.

What Do We Think of the New Taylor Song?:
"Look What You Made Me Do" dropped last night, and I still don't have an official opinion on it. At first I thought it was bad, then I thought it wasn't not good, and I still don't know. Just remember: This could be the only thing standing between "Despacito" and the record held by "One Sweet Day" for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. So regardless of your opinion, #buylookwhatyoumademedoonitunes and spin it all weekend long. Do it for Taylor. Do it for Mariah. Do it for America.
