Though Quechua is the second-most spoken language in Peru, native speakers have suffered from discrimination and social stigma for generations, and today, many young people aren't learning the language at all. But with her popular covers of pop songs by Michael Jackson and Alicia Keys in Quechua, Flores is sparking a renewed celebration of her native language and culture. Becoming King of the Lionfish to Save the Ocean John McCain (not that one) is a professional diver who cares deeply about the health of the ocean. Last year, he channeled his love for the aquatic world into a fishing competition. A contradiction? Hardly.
