Credit: Dan Kitwood/Getty Images Wait, We Need To Talk About Melania's $51,500 Jacket: Because it's important. Melania Trump today in Sicily, touring Chierici Palace City Hall with other G7 spouses, wore this Dolce & Gabbana coat from the house's Fall 2017 ready-to-wear season. No joke: it retails for $51,500. I asked Stephanie Grisham, Melania's communications director, if the jacket is on loan from Dolce & Gabbana (which she has worn more of this trip than any other label) or if it is part of her personal collection. BECAUSE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN FAMILY INCOME IN 2015 WAS $55,775. And that would just be bad. Awaiting response...follow my Twitter and I'll post when/if I hear back from the White House. | | Credit: Giovanni Isolino/AFP/Getty Images Here's the jacket from the runway show, back in February, and also the listing on luxe shopping site, Moda Operandi, where it's already sold out, and those who purchased have to wait until late summer/fall for delivery. And they also had to make a $25,750 deposit. | | Credit: (l) Tiziana Fabi/Getty Images; (r) modaoperandi.com | | There Was Also A Helicopter, Because Lunch: The G7 spouses were ferried from Taormina to Catania in a helicopter for lunch ... Here's what I think it is, left to right. Merkel's like, "Did you see what so-and-so did?" And Trump's like, "OMG, duh, what a loser." Then Merkel's like, "Yeah, that always happens with him/her," and Trump's all, "Well, whaddya gonna do." | | Credit: Screen shots from video feed/Noah Gray/CNN Going Into the Long Weekend Like These Kids: This is a fun story, worth the read and definitely worth the video. | | Credit: wsj.com Fam! Enjoy the long weekend, and remember to honor our service men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom. Last year, I finally went down to watch Rolling Thunder and it was awesome and moving and really, really cool; I highly recommend going. | | What Washington is Talking About: Montana's new congressman-elect, Greg Gianforte, who won yesterday's special election despite being charged with assaulting a reporter the day before. What America is Talking About: It's Memorial Day weekend, and half of you are already checked out or on vacation already, I'll bet. What Our Reporter Heard at the Polls: From our Kyung Lah yesterday, who was reporting from Montana: | | Credit: @KyungLahCNN/Twitter Gianforte's Citation: Here's Gianforte's citation, which states he "knowingly or purposefully or negligently" committed assault, "purposefully or knowingly" causing "bodily injury to another," obtained by Bozeman Daily Chronicle reporter Whitney Bermes: | | Credit: @wabermes/Twitter In case you missed it, Gianforte apologized in his victory speech last night (you can watch it here). "Last night I made a mistake and I took an action that I can't take back and I'm not proud of what happened," he said. "I should not have responded in the way that and, and for that, I'm sorry." A woman in the audience can be heard shouting, "And you're forgiven." "I should not have treated that reporter that way, and for that, I'm sorry, Mr. Ben Jacobs," Gianforte said. You'll remember his campaign initially denied Guardian reporter Jacobs' version of events and said he exhibited "aggressive behavior" and "created this scene." Trump Mentions Montana Race: Speaking to the pool camera today in Sicily, President Trump said, unprompted, "Great win in Montana." Fields Weighs In: Michelle Fields, the former Breitbart reporter who accused former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski of assaulting her at a campaign event in Florida in 2016, is out with a NYT op-ed headlined "Journalism in the Age of the Body Slam." "In the United States today, it seems all politics has become entirely situational, and Republicans have put party over civility," she wrote. "Had Ben been attacked by a Democrat, many on the right who are refusing to believe the assault occurred — or outright praising it — would be hailing him as a victim of liberal rage. Had Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, rather than Mr. Trump's, grabbed my arm, I would not have been abandoned by many of my friends and mentors at Fox News, or my employer, Breitbart News." You're Going to Want to Watch This Breakdown: I've never in my life seen a better use of looping video in a news story than this Times breakdown of the violence that broke out outside the Turkish ambassador's residence last week in Washington. Seriously, it's worth a click. You don't even have to read, just scroll and watch a series of short, looping videos. Twenty-four men, some of whom were armed members of Turkish President Erdogan's security detail, outnumbered protesters outside the residence nearly two-to-one, and video shows them assaulting the protesters, some of whom are American citizens, the Times found. None of the 24 men have been charged with a crime. Martial Law, Maybe?: Here's a letter to the editor in the Virginia Pilot by Drew Allen, of Virginia Beach, that made my eyes pop: | | Credit: The Virginia Pilot The Rock Sounds Pretty Confident: He said he thinks he's going to be president (also, Jennifer Aniston thinks if "Friends" were created today, you'd just have a coffee shop full of people that were just staring into their phones, but that's besides the point). | | Credit: People Meanwhile, Zuck...: Last weekend, Mark Zuckerberg denied that he's running for office, despite his politician-like 50-state tour he's in the middle of taking this year. But then he gave the Harvard commencement address yesterday (he posted the text on his Facebook page, if you want to read), and it's one of the most aspirational political things I've heard in a while, so, I don't know, man...
