Trump confirmed in a tweet that he will attend the US Women's Open golf tournament, being held there at the Trump National Golf Club. What the White House Press Corps is Talking About: That was a really long good-bye handshake. Also, jet lag. The Plot Thickens: There's a new ripple in the ongoing Russia-Trump administration saga, this one over how Trump and his staff handled the response to the Donald Trump Jr. email issue. It's complicated, but this is a helpful explainer. This Cover Tho: Next week's New Yorker cover, "Grounded," by Barry Blitt, is good stuff. | | Credit: Barry Blitt for The New Yorker/newyorker.com "Ivanka Inc.": The Washington Post has an in-depth and multi-faceted deep dive on the Ivanka Trump brand, from where it's made, to who makes it, how it's distributed and, most importantly, how all of those things can be interpreted as in stark contrast to the Trump administration's message. It's fascinating, and comprehensive, with cool graphics and photos, so give yourself some time. Definitely worth the read. | | Credit: washingtonpost.com Javanka, Meanwhile, Still in Sun Valley with the Rich People: Jared Kushner and Ivanka remain in Sun Valley, Idaho, at the Allen & Co. annual conference of moguls who control things like tech, media and finance. It's like camp for the wealthy. They were snapped Thursday, and best part: Jared is wearing a name tag. | | Credit: Drew Angerer/Getty Images Dress Like the First Lady: While I wasn't a huge fan of the custom dress made by Melania Trump's stylist, Herve Pierre, which she wore Thursday night to dinner with the Macrons at the Eiffel Tower, I was super-into the ultra-feminine floral Valentino she had on today at the Bastille Day parade. It was from the design house's 2017 Resort collection. The cool thing about this dress is that a) it's on sale, and b) it comes in different versions. There's the mid-length style that Melania wore ($5,340), a dramatic gown ($3,960), and, for less formal occasions, a cute mini ($2,490). | | Credit: Christophe Archambault/AFP/Getty Images; net-a-porter.com; lyst.com But let's go back to the Pierre dress for a second, because a source explained to me that the outcropping of cut fabric was supposed to resemble a bouquet of wheat, which is a symbol of Ceres, the Goddess of the Harvest. Not gonna lie, sometimes fashion can get a little too deep for its own good. A bouquet of wheat was a new one, even for me. | | Credit: Yves Herman/Getty Images Happy Game of Thrones Weekend, Fam!: It's finally here! Well, Sunday, on Sunday it's finally here. I'm a big GOT fan, while Hunter is not, but only because he hasn't watched it. So I'm super-excited to watch the new season, and so is one of my most favorite NPR personalities (Hi, I'm Kate), Peter Sagal, who breaks down a preview as only he can. Enjoy! | | What Washington is Talking About: The Senate Republicans' health care bill is potentially one vote away from not receiving a motion to proceed. What America is Talking About: Beyonce posted a pic of the twins. "Sir Carter and Rumi 1 month today," she wrote on Insta. Poll of the Day: Most people who disapprove of the way President Trump is handling his job say it's because of character- or personality-related reasons and not issue- and policy-related ones, according to Gallup. This includes 29% who say he's not presidential, has a bad temperament, or is arrogant or obnoxious, and 10% who say he's inexperienced or doesn't know what he's doing. | | Kid Rock Says He's Serious About Running for Senate: "Like politicians write books during their campaigns, I'm planning on putting out music during mine and IT ALL STARTS TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT," he wrote on Instagram. Here's how Michigan's Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow responded to Kid Rock's possible candidacy: | | Credit: @stabenow/Twitter Kid Rock fired back on Insta, writing, "I concede she is better at playing politics than I am so I'll keep doing what I do best, which is being a voice for tax paying, hardworking AMERICANS and letting politicians like her know that We the People are sick and tired of their bull****!" Politics for Your Ears: Here's the new music Kid Rock promised, a one-two punch of "Greatest Show On Earth" and "Po-Dunk." Standout line from the latter: "That's po-dunk, don't give a flyin' hillbilly f**k / I said po-dunk / A yard full of chickens and a barn full of junk." | | "House of Cards" and "Veep" Up for Emmys: The shows have been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, respectively, and Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are up for Outstanding Lead Actor/Actress.
