What the White House Press Corps is Talking About: President Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was still going at 90 minutes when this newsletter wrapped. Friendly Welcome: "We have had some very good talks," said Trump during a quick joint photo op. He said it was an "honor" to meet the Russian leader, who in return said to Trump, "I'm delighted to meet you." And then the leaders shook hands. If it looks familiar, it's because it also happened in House of Cards, Season 3. | | Credit: Saul Loeb/Getty Images #FBF: That time in 2007 that Putin brought his giant Labrador, "Koni," to his meeting in Russia with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. It says, "The Impossible President." | | Trump Maybe Couldn't Get a Hotel Because Saudi King's Camels : The story about Trump not being able to secure a good hotel for the G20 because he didn't act fast enough is a good story. A better story, however, is that he couldn't stay at the Four Seasons in Hamburg because it was fully booked by Saudi Arabia's King Salman, and possibly his camels, which was reported by the German publication, Stern. I buy this version because I broke the story a couple of years ago about King Salman doing a full buyout of the Four Seasons here in Washington, all 222 rooms and suites. He had the furniture swapped out for his preferred gold accoutrements, and his feet never touched ground not covered by red carpet. Our Daily Melania: Thanks to protests near the G20, today's installments of "Our Daily Melania" and "Dress Like the First Lady" are cancelled. Melania wasn't allowed to leave her hotel to attend spousal programs today, per security concerns. | | Dress Like the Former President: So, instead, here's George W. It's more crystals and metals. She is, however, featuring her hobby in the Hamptons. Expect to see it pop up a lot on Washingtonians' Instas the rest of the summer. What America is Talking About: ESPN's 2017 Body Issue hits newsstands today. Poll of the Day: A third of all Washington residents have protested President Trump, including a majority of white residents, according to a Washington Post poll. The poll also found residents were more likely to have protested if they were college graduates, made more than $100,000 a year, and lived in Wards 1 and 3 (both in Northwest). | | Why Repubs Suck at Repealing Obamacare, According to One Senator: They've pledged for years to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and they now have control of the White House and both chambers of Congress, but Republicans still haven't done the deed. Sen. Patrick Toomey of Pennsylvania gave this explanation in an interview this week with reporters in his state: "Look, I didn't expect Donald Trump to win. I think most of my colleagues didn't, so we didn't expect to be in this situation." Russia's Stepping Up Its Spying Efforts: Since the election, Russia has increased its intelligence-gathering efforts in the US and has nearly 150 suspected operatives here, current and former US intelligence officials tell CNN. "The concerning point with Russia is the volume of people that are coming to the US. They have a lot more intelligence officers in the US" compared to what they have in other countries, a former intelligence official said. "As America has moved toward a corporatocracy, the tactics of politicians like Trump and many corporations to brazenly undermine fact, science, and reasonable debate by spreading chaos and disinformation to advance their own agendas over the well-being of the public has become even more pervasive," Shep said of the pieces. | | Credit: Obey Giant Send me your pics of political street art to coverlinehunter@cnn.com, tweet me @hunterschwarz or tag @cnncoverline on Instagram. | | | | | |
