That's a lot of bugs to discover! Luckily, there's Refugio Amazonas. Located in one of the most biodiverse nations on Earth, this Peruvian research facility and hotel lays claim to numerous discoveries of insect species each year. But it's not just resident biologist Daniel Couceiro or his colleague who make the new discoveries; it's hotel guests as well.   This Great Big Story was made in partnership with Peru. The California Roll Was Invented in Canada In 1971, sushi was not widely consumed in North America. In fact, it wasn't popular at all. Chef Hidekazu Tojo, a Japanese chef new to Vancouver, British Columbia, needed to find a way in. By concealing the seaweed on the inside and packing the rolls with ingredients that Canadians were more familiar with—cucumber, cooked crab, and avocado—Tojo invented one of the most famous North American sushi rolls ever: the California roll.
