Davette Mabrie has kept military servicewomen in natural styles that meet uniform requirements for nearly 30 years. In 2018, the U.S. Air Force lifted a restriction that previously banned servicewomen from wearing dreadlocks, following a wave of similar policy changes throughout the Armed Services. Now, Davette can style clients like Airman First Class Emoni Covington in once-banned dreadlocks. And it feels like freedom.
Ageless Beauty
During the Holocaust, Jacqueline Kimmelstiel had one lipstick. She was a teenager at the time, and the small bit of makeup made her feel beautiful. Now at 91, Jackie gets her hair done every two weeks at the Riverwalk Salon, part of her independent living community in the Bronx, NY.
