NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned forecast weather conditions mean the state "may not be through the worst" of the bushfire emergency, and says "we do need to brace ourselves".
Queenslanders are urged to remain vigilant and be patient as 36 fires burn across the state and thousands of Sunshine Coast residents have been evacuated.
Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has released a statement saying Labor extends its "sincere sympathies to those who have lost loved ones and property" in the bushfires in NSW and Queensland.
Sky News contributor Daisy Cousens says Queensland Treasurer Jackie Trad's decision to hire consultants to reduce the state government's bureaucracy is "a little bit of a contradiction".
