| | Washington's next week will be even wilder | | | As expected, Democrats' impeachment effort gained steam in the fast-paced week after Thanksgiving recess. The Intelligence Committee's report on its findings laid out a road map for the articles of impeachment -- one that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that Democrats now have "no choice" but to follow. The White House said in a letter Friday that President Donald Trump will not participate in the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment process, calling the inquiry "completely baseless" and a "reckless abuse of power." That sets the stage for Monday's hearing, when the Judiciary Committee will hear evidence in the investigation. Committee members will work through the weekend to prepare for the hearing, according to CNN's Manu Raju. That hearing isn't the only ballgame next week, either. The Justice Department inspector general's report looking into the origins of the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation is slated for release on Monday, with a hearing to come on Wednesday. Don't expect much clarity, either. The waters are already muddy around the report's findings, as Attorney General William Barr said the report won't be the last word on the FBI's Russia probe.
