The Woman Fighting for Detroit's Water
Over the last three years, more than 100,000 families in the city of Detroit have had their water shut off. Some have been without water for a few days, while others have lost access for years. That's why Monica Lewis-Patrick is helping these families regain access to this basic human necessity. As president of the organization We the People of Detroit, Lewis-Patrick delivers donated water to people in need.
Ahhhh! Real (Gila) Monsters
If you find yourself in the desert of the southwestern United States, do yourself a favor and try not to step on a gila monster. This orange-and-black-speckled reptile is the only venomous lizard native to the U.S. It's got powerful jaws and a ferocious bite, which it pairs with venomous saliva to consume its prey. But sadly, agricultural and residential development have severely stunted the gila monster's natural habitat.
