What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump makes a rare visit to Capitol Hill today for a lunch with Senate Republicans to talk tax reform goals.

What the White House Press Corps is Talking About:
How awkward and potentially explosive that lunch could be, considering Bob Corker, John McCain and Jeff Flake will be in attendance.
The press briefing is scheduled for today at 2:30 with Sarah Sanders.

Trump vs. Corker:
So this morning, the back-and-forth name-calling and general dislike between the president and the Senator from Tennessee reached fire territory. CNN's Manu Raju asked Corker this morning if he would support Trump again in an election and Corker said, "No. No way." He added that Trump is "not going to rise to the occasion as president." In response, Trump kept quiet, preferring to turn the other cheek and preserve some semblance of decorum. PSYCHE! He totally tweeted
The first one, suggesting Corker couldn't get elected dog catcher, got me and Hunter talking about dog catchers. Are they really elected? Does this still happen? Please email and let me know if you have a good dog catcher election story -- we are mildly obsessing over this topic. Thanks.

But Melania Says Not to Bully...:
Melania Trump got a lot of flack after yesterday's visit to a Michigan middle school, where she spent a lot of time talking to the kids about the importance of being kind and compassionate to one another. Obviously, critics pounced on her about how she should perhaps share that message to her own husband -- which is a valid point. But, and I'm thinking out loud here, how would she do that? Clearly she can't control his name-calling behavior, just like no one else can, from General Kelly to Ivanka Trump and on down the line. I'm not sure it's fair to attack her for at least trying to change the perception that it's OK to shout down to people, that it's OK to use the bully pulpit or social media to continue a derogatory or hurtful hashtag, that it's OK to leave others' feelings out of the equation. I give Melania credit for actually approaching bullying, in spite of Trump's penchant for it.

I also liked the part yesterday where she told a classroom of 6th graders her no-nos. This is a shot we got of her literally using her fingers to list them off: "I always say no drugs, no alcohol, no cigarettes, right? Because it doesn't do any good to your brains. It just damages."

Live From Iowa, It's Alec Baldwin:
Baldwin's becoming the new hot "get" for Democrats looking to add star caliber to their events and fundraising emails, says CNN's Eric Bradner

George + Barbara Bush = ❤️:
They've been married for 72 years. Pete Souza caught this shot of them holding hands at the One America Appeal concert the other night and I just thought it said so much about their love and endurance.

Wait, Elon Musk's Going to do What Now?:

Elon Musk has gotten the OK to build a 10.3-mile tunnel underneath the Baltimore-Washington Parkway to test out the possibility that his Hyperloop fast-transit thing can actually get you (not me, because I would never get on it) from DC to NYC in less than 30 minutes. According to Musk, it would look something like this:

Dress Like the First Daughter, Or, Maybe Don't This Time:
A lot of you reached out to me via email or on Twitter to discuss the shirt Ivanka Trump wore yesterday while visiting Pennsylvania for a tax reform discussion. Apologies for not getting on it then. I was traveling with Melania to Michigan, but, have no fear -- I would never let you down, not with something like this. I mean, listen, red and pink don't really belong in the same item, unless it's Gucci, then maybe? The shirt was by a Staud, an LA-based label that, from its website, appears to be into the bell sleeve. The top is the Kiku, and it retails here for $195

Dress Like the First Lady:
This is a "do," if you can afford it. For her trip yesterday she wore this $2,950 double-breasted wool Valentino jacket, available here. It looks sort of pink in pictures, but in person it was more of a bright lavender. I got this shot of the first lady yesterday posing with Michigan law enforcement before she got on the plane to come home.

What Washington is Talking About:
President Trump is heading to to Capitol Hill today for the Senate Party Policy Luncheon, and the Senate is debating a disaster relief bill that could be voted on today.

What America is Talking About:
Target says it will slow its "Christmas creep," aka, that feeling that the holiday season starts earlier and earlier at retailers every year.

Check Out That WaPo A1 Today:
Quite a juxtaposition above the fold today: a big photo of Trump honoring retired Army Capt. Gary M. Rose with the Medal of Honor next to the headline, "Army widow says call from Trump 'made me cry'" on a story on Myeshia Johnson.

Tech Companies Up Their Lobby Budgets:
Several Silicon Valley companies this year have found themselves either in Congress's crosshairs (like social networks being questioned about Russian interference in the 2016 campaign) or advocating for political issues (like Apple and Amazon lobbying on DACA), and it shows in their lobbying budgets. Here are some third quarter figures, with the percentage increase from the same time period last year, according to disclosure reports reviewed by the Washington Post:
  • Uber spent $510,000, up 50%
  • Apple spent $1.86 million, up 73%
  • Facebook spent $2.85 million, up 41%
  • Amazon spent $3.4 million, up 26%
  • Google spent $4.17 million, up 9%
Twitter and Microsoft both decreased the amount they spent on lobbying.

Kid Rock 2018 Isn't Happening:
His exact words to Howard Stern this morning were, "F*** no, I'm not running for Senate. Are you f***ing kidding me? Like, who f***ing couldn't figure that out?"

It comes after more than three months of teasing and speculation. He posted the graphic of a "Kid Rock for US Senate" yard sign on July 12 and attacked media for not taking his possible candidacy seriously the following day. "Like politicians write books during their campaigns, I'm planning on putting out music during mine," he wrote on his website the following day. "It's not a hoax, it's a strategy and marketing 101!"

In his Stern interview he said his plan was to "roll with it for a while," but even people who work for him and knew he wasn't really running thought he might.

ESPN Drops Barstool Sports Show:
The network cancelled "Barstool Van Talk" after a single episode. The show from start-up Barstool Sports  was scheduled to air once a week at 1 a.m. ESPN President John Skipper said in a statement yesterday afternoon, "I erred in assuming we could distance our efforts from the Barstool site and its content." In the political ecosystem of sports media, if ESPN is the "liberal lamestream media" then Barstool is the politically incorrect underdog whose occasional political coverage includes sometimes calling Trump "Donnie."

Conde Nast Drops Photographer Terry Richardson:
The media company behind such magazines as Vogue and GQ is no longer working with Richardson and is killing or substituting work of his that has not been published, deputy publicity director Harriet Robertson confirmed to COVER/LINE. The news was first reported in the Daily Telegraph. Richardson has been accused by models of making unwanted sexual advances going back to at least 2014. So perhaps this is further evidence of reverberations from the Harvey Weinstein allegations?

Richardson has shot a wide range of celebrities, from Beyonce and Kim Kardashian to Barack Obama and Ivanka Trump.

Javanka Fancy Themselves Matchmakers:
Ivanka told Sean Hannity last night her and J-Kush are responsible for seven marriages. "This is Jared and my secret talent," she said. "People don't realize it's our hidden skill, we're matchmakers. Seven marriages. Zero divorces. Hopefully, God willing, that continues." She also said "Jared's always pushing people" who are dating to get married, telling them "you have all the facts that you need to know; make the move!"

Kim Kardashian Got an Autographed Copy of "What Happened":
She posted a video of it on her Instagram story. Clinton wrote, "To Kim with best wishes always." The reality star celebrated her 37th birthday Saturday.

Street Art Sighting:
Sent in by Ben Turpen from Louisville, Kentucky, who emailed me, "Not quite street art," but "someone took the time to honor Pepe." I'd say that counts.
