What the White House Press Corps Is Talking About: The joint news conference this afternoon with Gentiloni and President Donald Trump. Health Care Revival?: CNN is hearing Trump might try to give health care another go before his first 100 days are up, nine days from today. Congress is back in session next week. Trump Weighs In on Picture DeflateGate: In a tweet this morning, POTUS called out The New York Times for tweeting side-by-side photos of a 2015 New England Patriots White House visit and one from Wednesday. The latter looks really sparse. However, ahem, as the Pats pointed out, the crowded one included front and back-office folks along the steps, and this year those people apparently were seated. I feel like the team was completely in the right to tweet and set the record straight, which they did, twice. | | Credit: @Patriots/Twitter "Javanka" Make Time's Annual 100 List: The Ivanka Trump write-up is done by her BFF Wendi Murdoch, ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch, who says the two women became close when they were neighbors in New York 12 years ago. Wendi Murdoch also gives a clue about how Ivanka is using her "new visibility." "She has long advocated to empower women and girls and is now leading education initiatives and working to put an end to human trafficking." Jared Kushner's section is by Henry Kissinger, who says the President's son-in-law has a "daunting role flying close to the sun." | | Ivanka to Berlin: She's making her first international trip next week for the Women's 20 Summit in Berlin at the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. (I'm going too. Don't worry, I'll still write Das Cover/Line, Europe edition.) In addition to the summit and a gala dinner, Ivanka Trump will also visit a technology academy and a memorial for Jews killed in the Holocaust. She'll also make a stop at the US Embassy in Berlin to visit with staff and their families. I found this part of the schedule interesting, if only for how the first daughter is listed among her fellow summit panelists: | | Credit: White House press office But People Really Aren't Comfortable with Her Role: A new Quinnipiac Poll released Wednesday asked Americans about Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and whether or not they approve of their positions advising the President. Short answer, they don't. Fifty-three percent say it's not appropriate for either to play a significant role inside the White House. The poll also asked about Melania Trump, who got a 34% favorable rating and 24% unfavorable. But 35% said they still didn't know her well enough to form an opinion -- oof. | | Trump to Attend Summit, But Will He Wear the Shirt?: Sure, OK, the news today was Vice President Mike Pence confirming that Donald Trump will attend the US-ASEAN Summit in the Philippines in November, which is cool, I guess, but what I immediately thought about was the class photo the leaders take, wearing traditional outfits selected by the host country. I mean, with the exception of his golf ensemble -- white polo shirt, khaki pants, MAGA hat -- we've never seen the President in anything else, except the occasional black tie. | | What Washington Is Talking About: Fox News' firing of Bill O'Reilly. Sources tells CNN's Brian Stelter that O'Reilly recently signed a new contract for about $25 million a year that doesn't expire until 2020 or 2021, and that although O'Reilly will receive "a staggering amount," he will not be paid the entire amount. What America Is Talking About: Starbucks' new pink and blue Unicorn Frappuccino. If you spend any time browsing recipes on Pinterest (🙋♂️), you may be familiar with the unicorn (and mermaid) food trend. It's now officially mainstream. Ex-Fox Employees Targeted Online: Jana Winter, a former reporter for Fox News, tweeted Wednesday that this targeted ad from UltraViolet, a liberal group that specializes in women's issues, has been appearing in her Facebook feed multiple times a day for two weeks: | | Credit: @janawinter/Twitter I reached out to Winter, and she provided another ad that popped up Wednesday night, from Color of Change, a liberal group that describes itself as "the nation's largest online racial injustice organization": | | Palin Visits White House: Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, posted photos of herself Wednesday in the Oval Office, along with Kid Rock and Ted Nugent. A White House official told CNN they had dinner with Trump. | | Credit: Sarah Palin/Facebook The trio also snapped a pic in front of Hillary Clinton's White House portrait as first lady. | | Credit: Sarah Palin/Facebook Government Denies Aaron Schock's Allegations of Wrongdoing: You may remember former Rep. Aaron Schock, 35, claimed last month the FBI used a former staffer to secretly record his conversations. Federal prosecutors have responded, denying misconduct in a court filing Tuesday. The Illinois Republican was indicted in November on fraud charges. "From the beginning of the investigation that led to his indictment, Defendant Schock has engaged in an increasingly aggressive search for some governmental misconduct claim, initially to forestall the indictment, and now to avoid the trial on the merits," the filing reads. Pepe Watch: A denim skirt with a pair of frogs on it from clothing chain Zara is no longer available after complaints online that the frogs resembled Pepe, the cartoon frog and Internet meme that became associated with the alt-right movement during the 2016 campaign. A representative for Zara told COVER/LINE in an email, "There is absolutely no link to the suggested theme." | | Credit: @meaganrosae/Twitter The skirt was "part of the limited Oil-on-Denim collection, which was created through collaborations with artists and is only available in selected markets," the represenative said. "The designer of the skirt is Mario de Santiago, known online as Yimeisgreat." Similar skirts with images of flowers, a "feather design," and "Japanese design" are about $50 to $70. Light Up On the Hill: The pro-marijuana group DCMJ is commemorating 4/20 by holding the "1st Annual Joint Session" on the corner of First Street NE and Constitution Avenue NE in Washington and handing out joints. | | Credit: DCMJ Washington voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2014, but it remains illegal to sell and illegal to use on federal land, which accounts for about 25% of the district. | | | | | | |
