What the White House Press Corps Is Talking About: But superstar quarterback Tom Brady is an eleventh hour no-show, releasing a statement this morning saying he won't make it because he is "attending to some personal family matters." There are six other Patriots who are skipping the Trump meet-and-greet because they don't support the President. Trump Inauguration Made Bank: At $107 million, Trump's inauguration contribution haul, mostly from wealthy friends and corporations, broke the record previously set at what now seems a paltry $53 million by Obama's inaugural committee in 2009. The Trump funds paid for 20 official events during inauguration weekend. There's money left over, which the Trump's committee says will be donated to charity. Easter Egg Roll Official Head Count: The first lady's office tells CNN that the final tally of people at Monday's White House Easter Egg Roll was just over 20,000, which was the anticipated number. Obama's first Egg Roll drew 30,000 in 2009, but, to be fair, Monday's festivities were hampered by showers. | | Barron Trump Is an Arsenal Fan: Which is just fine by me. Trump's son was snapped kicking the ball around by himself Monday afternoon in the Rose Garden, just outside the Oval Office. And ... he's wearing what appears to be head-to-toe Arsenal gear. | | Credit: @DanasDirt/Twitter Stay Weird, France: I'm admittedly très interested in the French presidential election for some bizarre reason, so when news came out that the Bernie Sanders of the race, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, has been using hologram technology to appear in multiple places at the same time, I was like 😳. | | Credit: @nycjim/Twitter Remember That Day Kellyanne Conway Said to Buy Ivanka Trump Brand?: It worked, apparently. According to this chart from fashion website Lyst.com, sales of Ivanka Trump items jumped thousands of percentage points (I was told there would be no math) from 2016 to 2017 on February 9 and 10, the days Conway said on Fox News that people should go out and buy the first daughter's brand to support her. | | Credit: lyst.com Washington Hostess Gets Ink for Secret DC Dinner Parties: Full disclosure: I have been to almost all of these very interesting, very off-the-record, dinner parties at the home of Susanna Quinn. This Hollywood Reporter story sort of sheds light on how they work, but it leaves out the part where we often force the VIP politician-guest to play a few rounds of "Head's Up!" before he or she is free to go. | | | Your IKEA Bag Is All the Rage: | | What Washington Is Talking About: Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, announced this morning he will not seek re-election in 2018. Chaffetz, 50, said in a statement, "I have long advocated public service should be for a limited time," but said, "I may run again for public office, but not in 2018." Utah Gov. Gary Herbert's term ends in 2020, so perhaps. ... Also, what will Chaffetz do with his Twitter handle, @jasoninthehouse?!? What America Is Talking About: Aaron Hernandez, the 27-year-old former New England Patriot tight end found guilty of murder in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison, was found hanged in his cell, according to the Massachusetts Department of Correction. There's Gonna Be a Runoff: Democrat Jon Ossoff, 30, didn't hit 50% in Tuesday's special election for Georgia's 6th Congressional District (he received 48.1%), so he's headed to a June runoff against Republican Karen Handel. Republican votes were split among 11 candidates but totaled 51.12%, so Ossoff has an uphill fight for the House seat. Sources: Fox Looking at O'Reilly Exit: A source told our Brian Stelter that Fox News and Bill O'Reilly are in talks over an exit -- read Tuesday's issue of the Reliable Sources newsletter for all the deets — and New York magazine is reporting they're looking to do it before Monday. Bush, 92, was hospitalized Friday for "a mild case of pneumonia," a spokesman confirmed to CNN. He's expected to remain in the hospital for observation for a few days. It's the second time he's been hospitalized this year. Trump's Buck Swag: Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker gifted President Donald Trump a jersey with his name and "45" on the back and a green "Make the Bucks Great Again" hat. The Milwaukee Bucks went 33-49 during the 2015-2016 season. | | Credit: Saul Loeb/AFP/Getty Images Warren Poses With Feminist Symbol/Wall Street Ad: Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, tweeted a photo with the Wall Street "Fearless Girl" statue Tuesday. The statue has become a political symbol, but side note: It was paid for by an investment firm whose parent company agreed in January to pay more than $64 million to resolve fraud charges, per the Justice Department. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ | | Credit: @elizabethforma/Twitter Warren, 67, was in New York as part of a press tour for her book "This Fight Is Our Fight: The Battle to Save America's Middle Class," released Tuesday, so expect to see a lot of her for the next few days. She said on "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday night that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won't make eye contact with her, and she told "Today" she doesn't intend to run for president. Ernst Calls Out Trump: One of the big questions every midterm election is: Will members of Congress run with or away from the president of their same party? We'll see how 2018 shakes out, but a town hall Tuesday night with Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, felt to me like a preview of what we could see. | | Credit: CNN The freshman rising star, 46, who isn't up for re-election until 2020, said Trump's frequent weekend Mar-a-Lago trips not only bother her but other Republicans as well. "I do wish he would spend more time in Washington," she said. She was also asked how she could "support a man who treats women the way Donald Trump does," and she responded, saying Trump has "a number of flaws. "I support a majority of the policies versus the person," she said. | | | | | | |
