Gut Hack

Greetings from Op-Docs!

This week's Op-Doc is "Gut Hack," the story of a rogue scientist performing a radical experiment on his own body. Directed by Kate McLean and Mario Furloni, the film is a lively exploration of the scientific method in its most punk rock form — and of the microbial multitudes that live inside each of us. The film is also screening now at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

World Premieres at Tribeca

Join us at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday, April 30, for a slate of poignant Op-Docs that explore struggles faced by everyday citizens. The program will feature Megan Mylan's "Taller Than the Trees," as well as the world premieres of "Undue Burden," by Gina Pollack, and "Hotel USA," by Andrea Meller and Marisa Pearl. A moderated conversation with the filmmakers will follow after the screenings. Tickets are on sale now.

Another Op-Doc, Elizabeth Lo and R.J. Lozada's "Mother's Day," will have its world premiere as part of the Shorts: S.O.S. program. Limited tickets are still available.

Peabody and Webby Awards

Congratulations to Daphne Matziaraki, whose Op-Doc "4.1 Miles" has been announced as a finalist for the 76th annual Peabody Awards. Meanwhile, the Webby Awards named Sarah Klein and Tom Mason's "How to Win an Election" as an honoree, and nominated Sandy Smolan and James Nestor's beautiful virtual reality Op-Doc "The Click Effect" in the category of documentary individual episode.
