Taxes Are Due: How the federal government spends our money

What the White House Is Talking About:
President Donald Trump's trip today to Wisconsin, where he will sign the "Buy American, Hire American" executive order.

What the White House Press Corps Is Talking About:
The AP story today that says during the week Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, 3.4 tons of Ivanka Trump brand "handbags, wallets and blouses" were delivered to the United States from China.

Also that Congrats Call to Turkey's Erdogan:
Which apparently happened Monday night. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a referendum that basically gives him ultimate power -- amid allegations of shady voting practices.

Meanwhile, Mike Pence Covers Asia:
In an interview with CNN's Dana Bash, Pence says North Korea is "getting the message" about how Trump wants leader Kim Jong Un to "behave."
"Great Job!":
The President, first lady and son Barron on Monday at the White House Easter Egg Roll wrote letters of support and thanks to active-duty troops. Here's what POTUS wrote: "Dear Brave Soldier, Thank you for your servce & GREAT JOB!" The stationery was printed with a bunny and flowers.

Guys, Trump Threw the Hat *Back* to the Kid:
Politico posted a little video Monday where it appeared Trump took a red "MAGA" hat from a youngster and signed it, but then threw it up in the air. It was funny. But it was also sort of misleading. This angle shows that the toss actually landed the hat back in the hands of its rightful owner.

Dress Like the First Daughter, Tiffany Trump Edition:
Gotta hand it to Tiffany for being the best-dressed, in my opinion, of the Trump family Monday. She wore this $2,995 3/4-sleeve Dolce & Gabbana, a major step up in her fashion game. D&G is a favorite of her stepmother, who wore the Italian label's black tuxedo jacket in her official White House portrait.

Our Daily Melania:
The Easter Egg Roll was, by most accounts, pretty good. I saw loads of families and kids having a fun time -- even the display of an egg's journey drew a crowd. Go figure.
I also roamed around and checked on the bees to see if they're still there. They are. Michelle Obama had the hive installed in 2009.

But back to Melania Trump, who wore a custom-made, ankle-length blush pink dress by Hervé Pierre, the designer of her inauguration gown, and more recently, the green dress she wore during the visit of Jordan's King and Queen. Noted: She also wore flats.

What Washington Is Talking About:
The special election today for Georgia's 6th Congressional District seat to replace former Rep. Tom Price, who is now secretary of health and human services.

Leading Democrat Jon Ossoff, 30, faces off against 11 Republican candidates and four other Democrats. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, there will be a June runoff between the top two finishers.

What America Is Talking About:
The Cleveland murder suspect has been found dead, Pennsylvania State police said.

Reminder:
Taxes are due.

How the Federal Government Spends Your Tax Dollars:
Nearly three-fourths of the $3.95 trillion spent by the federal government in fiscal year 2016 went toward human services spending, which includes Social Security, Medicare, education, and veterans benefits. Here's a visual breakdown, by Pew:

Gorsuch Debuts:
Neil Gorsuch heard his first case as a Supreme Court justice Monday. The inaugural case was Perry v. Merit Systems Protection Board.

Court scholar Adam Feldman told The Washington Post that Gorsuch asked 22 questions in his debut oral argument, more than any other justice now on the court did during his or her first oral argument.

W. a Feminist?:
That's what daughter Jenna Bush Hager thinks. "People laugh at this, but I think my dad was a feminist," she told People. "He showed us that we could be whatever we wanted to be. I want my girls to feel that way. I want them to feel strong and capable and feel like they can conquer the world."

"House of Cards" Is Expensive:
Netflix made $2.64 billion in revenue in its first quarter, beating its estimates, it announced Monday. "The reason why we had a bigger profit than we forecast was that 'House of Cards,' which normally launches in Q1 and is an expensive show, will be in Q2 this year," Netflix Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Friedland told me in an email.

The fifth season will premiere May 30.

#FakeBase:
I spoke Monday with Bill Mitchell, the prolific pro-Trump tweeter and host of YourVoice Radio, about the split we're seeing among vocal online right members in the wake of Donald Trump's Syria strike. He coined the hashtag #fakebase for those bailing on Trump.

"As long as Trump was with their agenda, they were fine, but the second he deviated from that, all the sudden they're throwing him under the bus," he said. "That's not the real base."

He said he thinks Trump is playing the long game and doesn't mind upsetting some voters for the time being. "He showed decisiveness where he knew it was going to hurt him with his base," he said.

Gaga FaceTimes Prince William:
Lady Gaga talked about mental health over FaceTime with Prince William in a video posted today. "For me waking up every day and feeling sad and going on stage is something that is very hard to describe," Gaga said. "There's a lot of shame attached to mental illness. You feel like something's wrong with you."

Prince William invited Gaga, whose new song, "The Cure," employs a version of what I refer to as "dolphin noises" (my current favorite pop music trend), to speak more in person in October when her Joanne World Tour hits the UK.
