The Baseball Game Wasn't Pretty, But It Was Fun: The Democrats beat the Republicans 11-2. Good times were had. Happy Father's Day! A gentle reminder you have a day and a half to get your dad a card/present. You're welcome. | | | Hunter Schwarz is on vacation. His section will return Monday. | | What the White House Is Talking About: President Donald Trump starts the day with tweets, including one that acknowledges he is under investigation. What the White House Press Corps Is Talking About: With the tweets, Trump set the tone for the news today, bumping his trip to Miami to announce new Cuba regulations down a notch. Where We're At: There's a lot to digest with the Russia investigation status. First, we had the tweets this morning, the most compelling of which was about Trump being investigated for firing the FBI director (James Comey) by the person who suggested he be fired (presumably, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein). If you're confused, try this. Meanwhile, special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating, is not playing. And, according to The Washington Post, he's also taking a closer look at Jared Kushner's business dealings. Pence Profile: Ashley Parker with the must-read today on Vice President Mike Pence, who it was reported Thursday has lawyered up with outside counsel as the Russia investigation could head his direction. (Back at the ranch, Pence's daughter had a FaceTime session with the family rabbit.) On Thursday, the former President sent a video message inducting Jay Z into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Obama said Jay Z's music inspired him as President, and that they are both dads who are "fools for our daughters." Guys, the Baseball Game Wasn't Pretty, But It Was Fun: Seriously, though, watching these guys play baseball at Thursday night's Congressional Baseball Game was at times ... difficult? (see below pics.) But the spirit of the thing was pretty awesome, with almost 25,000 people paying for tickets to watch, and close to $1.5 million raised for charity. Well done, DC. | | Credit: Bill Clark/Getty Images Ivanka Trump Has Giant Check: The first daughter, along with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, were on hand before the game started to hand over a giant check representing a $50,000 donation from "Friends in the Trump Administration." That's the question posed to a psychologist, a philosopher, a historian and an etiquette expert in this interesting piece. Trump wears at least one piece from her line on a regular basis as part of her daily wardrobe as far as I can tell. Thursday night, though the dress was Alexander McQueen and the sunglasses were Valentino, her shoes were her Ivanka Trump brand suede Tramory flats, on sale here for $76.80. | | Credit: @ivankatrump/Instagram This Cat Is the Best: I have become obsessed with Symba, the adorably obese cat up for adoption at the Humane Rescue Alliance. He makes me smile. And, yes, I know, he needs to lose weight. But still. | | Credit: @washingtonian/Twitter Dress Like the First Lady: Melania Trump went with her husband to the Supreme Court on Thursday to witness the investiture ceremony of Justice Neil Gorsuch. There wasn't a pool photographer, and the event was closed to the press, but the SCOTUS website posted a few pics. And Happy Father's Day! Thank g-o-d, because I've been in charge of the technical side of getting the newsletter out for the past few days, and as you can tell from how late it's been sliding into your inbox, I suck at it. Have a great weekend! And Happy Father's Day, Dad! I love you! | | | | | |
