What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump today meets with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the White House. Later, he travels to Pennsylvania to deliver a speech on tax reform.

Um, WHAT?

Also, the White House communications office has added a new member. Yesterday afternoon it was announced that Hogan Gidley will join as deputy press secretary, reporting to Sarah Sanders. Gidley was formerly press secretary to Sanders' dad, Mike Huckabee, during his presidential campaign.

Late Night TV is Winning:
Well, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel are -- Jimmy Fallon, not so much, he's down 31%. The heated political rhetoric has been a goldmine for late night talk shows, and Colbert leads in the ratings so far this season, with Kimmel making a solid run, up 9% in viewings. Although too early to pick the late-night king of the season, it's clear that talking politics and policy is getting people to tune in.

PUTIN GETS A PUPPY:
Vladimir Putin was gifted with a puppy, which is cute, but the guy who handed it to him has made me angry. You pick up cats like that, pal, not dogs. But I do love how Putin sort of jumps out of his seat to go grab it.

Our Daily Melania:
Yesterday the first lady went to West Virginia to visit Lily's Place, a recovery facility for babies born with withdrawal symptoms and other side effects from being exposed to opioids during a mother's pregnancy. I went along to cover Melania's second solo trip as first lady; my story with Betsy Klein here. FLOTUS is incorporating the drug crisis into her overall platform of helping children. Here's a shot of her holding a baby that has been through the program, along with the baby's mother, also a graduate of Lily's Place.

Vogue Loves Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Again:
The cover of the November Vogue was released today and there's a coverline (nod to our name) on a piece about New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. The story isn't posted yet, but if it's anything like the fashion magazine's 2010 feature on Gillibrand, or its 2014 feature, it's probably pretty glowing and whatnot.

Find Someone Who Looks At You the Way Justin Trudeau Looks at Ivanka Trump:

This is from last night, when the two were seated next to each other at a dinner for the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit.

I should note that Trudeau's wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, was sitting on the other side of her husband

And speaking of Mrs. Trudeau, she will be hosted at the White House today by Melania. While their husbands meet in the West Wing, the two women will have tea in the Red Room. Sophie and Melania have seen each other a lot lately -- she came to hear Melania's speech at the United Nations Mission, and Melania was on hand in Toronto to see Sophie at the kick-off of the Invictus Games a couple of weeks ago.
Dress Like the First Lady:
Yesterday, Melania Trump wore a green dress, and for a while I couldn't figure out the fabric, but then I found the dress and it turns out it's muslin. I thought it was linen or even shantung. Now I'm all off on a tangent about fabrics, and you're like, come on, Kate, focus.
OK - so the dress is relatively inexpensive at $450 from a line called Cefinn Studio. It's available here -- but there are also several styles in the same color, including a less expensive dress with a pussy bow that I kind of have my eye on tbh. She paired it with one of her favorite CL "So Kate" heels, these in the "ultra rose python" style, for $1,395

What Washington is Talking About:
The House is considering a bill on whistleblowers and the House Foreign Affairs Committee is holding a hearing on Iran, ahead of President Trump's decision on the Iran nuclear deal.

What America is Talking About:
The US men's soccer team failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since Ronald Reagan was president, in 1986, after losing Tuesday to Trinidad and Tobago.

Poll of the Day:
Where my single people at? The percentage of Americans living without a partner has grown in the past decade, from 39% to 42%, with people younger than 35 accounting for the largest increase, according to Pew.

Sheryl Sandberg Heading to the Hill:
The Facebook COO will be in town tomorrow and will meet with members of the Congressional Black Caucus, per Recode. Last week, three CBC members shared a letter with Facebook asking the social network to clamp down on ads seeking to incite racial tension and to share Russian-bought ads with them. There was at least one Russia-connected Facebook page that posed as a Black Lives Matter activist page.

Top Dems Speak Out on Weinstein:
We finally heard yesterday from Hillary Clinton about Harvey Weinstein. She said in a statement:

"I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein. The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior."

And Barack Obama, whose daughter Malia interned for the Weinstein Co. this year, said in a statement:

"Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein. Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status. We should celebrate the courage of women who have come forward to tell these painful stories. And we all need to build a culture -- including by empowering our girls and teaching our boys decency and respect -- so we can make such behavior less prevalent in the future."

Eminem Slams Trump in Freestyle Rap:
Guys, I think Eminem follows the news. If you haven't seen his freestyle rap from the BET Hip Hop Awards yet, you can watch here. It's like rap news notifications. Eminem called Trump "that b****," and mentioned news stories, from Trump's "I like people who weren't captured" comment to Charlottesville and the NFL. "All these horrible tragedies and he's bored and would rather cause a Twitter storm."

Related: in 2004, Trump "endorsed" Eminem for office in a mock convention for MTV. You can watch here. Trump said, "I'm Donald Trump, I'm always right! I know a winner when I see one. And Donald Trump is telling you right now, Slim Shady is a winner. He's got brains, he's got guts, and he's got Donald Trump's vote." Lol.

Tom Barrack on Trump: "He's Better Than This":
Billionaire and Colony Capitol CEO Tom Barrack, who's one of Trump's closest friends and the guy who famously said the Inauguration would feature "soft sensuality" (Kate and I still laugh about that line), told the Washington Post he doesn't like Trump's "rhetoric" and he tells him that "all the time." He said:

"He thinks he has to be loyal to his base. I keep on saying, 'But who is your base? You don't have a natural base. Your base now is the world and America, so you have all these constituencies; show them who you really are.' In my opinion, he's better than this."

Goodell Wants NFL to "Move Past" Anthem Protests:
In a letter sent to all 32 NFL teams, commissioner Roger Goddell wrote "we believe that everyone should stand for the national anthem" and the controversy "is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues," according to ESPN. The issue's expected to be discussed at the Fall League Meeting next week in New York.

On This Day in History:
Time magazine published its iconic photoshoot of Paul Ryan working out on this day in 2012. The photos were shot by Gregg Segal, and in the accompanying story, P90X creator Tony Horton said, "I think Paul Ryan's been very good for P90X, as much or more so as Michelle Obama. ... I'm well aware that they're using it in the White House."
