He has separate meetings on his schedule with Senator Tom Cotton and Ronna Romney-McDaniel. Later he'll be briefed by senior military leaders. What the White House Press Corps is Talking About: Day 2 of behind-the-scenes sleuthing about the relationship, both working and personal, between the president and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson after yesterday's "moron"-gate. Intrigue at Mar-A-Lago: This story has people talking today. Apparently Trump's visitors at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach estate/private club, aren't logged in any way, as they are at the White House. This is a big deal, not just for the Secret Service but for anyone who wants to understand who the president meets with when he's down there. Trump's Vegas Visit: He got better reviews from the media and critics on his trip to Vegas than he did on his visit the day before to Puerto Rico, which says...something? Trump seems particularly moved by the stories of survivors and victims of the shooting, as does the first lady. The footage of Thomas Gunderson, who was shot in the leg, standing when Melania Trump and the president came into his hospital room is inspiring. | | Credit: Thomas Gunderson/Facebook I'm Old Enough to Remember Ivana Trump: Which is why I'm totally going to watch "CBS Sunday Morning" this week for her interview. In the tease, she says she still talks to her ex, now the president, on a weekly basis. This quote about her saying "bye-bye" to places is EVERYTHING. "I was just offered to be the American ambassador to Czech Republic – and Donald told me. He said, 'Ivana, if you want it, I give it to you,'" Trump tells Jim Axelrod. "But I like my freedom. I like to do what I want to do, go wherever I want to go with whomever I want to go. And I can afford my lifestyle. Okay, why would I go and say bye-bye to Miami in the winter, bye-bye to Saint-Tropez in the summer, and bye-by to spring and fall in New York? I have a perfect life." The interview comes ahead of her book, "Raising Trump," which is set for release October 10th. | | Credit: Courtesy CBS News Ivanka Trump, Meanwhile: I couldn't help but notice that lately Ivanka Trump's Instagram feed has been devoid of photos of her children -- well, really, it's been devoid of anything involving her home, her lifestyle, and her kids. She used to post a lot of her activities, be it a weekday trip to a museum, or a visit to the White House by daughter Arabella, who one time made a bouquet for her teacher with help from the White House chief florist. All of it was documented on Ivanka's Insta, but no more. Now she primarily posts about her work events, policy and private meetings with leaders. It's a switch for sure -- and it means something -- so I wrote about it, with Betsy Klein. | | Barack and Michelle Obama's Dinner Was Actually Romantic: I thought perhaps they just had a table at Fiola on Tuesday night for their anniversary dinner, but I now know the former first couple toasted 25 years of marriage by dining alone, as the sun set, on the restaurant's private rooftop. My stepsister had her engagement party there and I can tell you, it's probably one of the best views in town. You can see the Capitol, the Washington Monument, the rooftops of federal buildings, Pennsylvania Avenue -- it's impressive. Well played, Obamas. Here's a shot of restaurateur Maria Trabocchi with the former first couple after the anniversary dinner. | | Credit: @mariatrabocchi/Instagram Dress Like the First Daughter: 🚨 Thursday bargain hunter edition🚨 Earlier this week, to talk about military spouses and employment at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, Ivanka wore this unique top. Might be better for a night out with friends? But do whatever you want with it because right now it's only $25 at NordstromRack.com. | | Credit: @ivankatrump/Instagram; nordstromrack.com | | What Washington is Talking About: Bump stocks. Republicans including Sens. John Cornyn, Jeff Flake and Tom Cotton have signaled they're open to hearing more about legislating the firearms accessory, which was used by the Las Vegas gunman and allows semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly. What America is Talking About: Law enforcement says there's unspecified evidence the Las Vegas gunman planned to escape and that there was a note in his hotel room, but it was not a suicide note. And 317 victims have been discharged from Las Vegas hospitals as of last night. Poll of the Day: Media coverage of President Trump's first 60 days in office was more negative than three of his predecessors, according to analysis from Pew. The study found 62% of Trump coverage was negative, compared to 20% for Obama and 28% for both W. and Clinton. | | Credit: Pew What's Going to Happen to Mandalay Bay Room 32135?: MGM Resorts International hasn't commented publicly on what will happen to the room the gunman used to fired on the country music festival. But it's likely to get refurbished or renumbered, if not repurposed into a storage area or something else, according to a hospitality and management professor and based on past examples of how hotels have handled such crime-scene rooms. UNLV Football to Wear Helmets to Commemorate Shooting: The school's athletic department said the team will wear special matte black helmets with a red ribbon that says "Las Vegas" for Saturday's game as a tribute to the victims and in honor of the heroes. | | Credit: @UNLVathletics/Twitter The Show Will Go On: Celine Dion dedicated her first Las Vegas show since the shooting to the victims, their families, and first responders, and donated to proceeds from the show to victims' families. "The reason that I decided to do this show so soon is more than to just sing. It is to show love and support for those who are affected," she said. | | Credit: CelineDionTV/YouTube Anti-Abortion Rep. Who Reportedly Asked Woman to Get An Abortion Not Seeking Reelection: Rep. Tim Murphy told KDKA in Pittsburgh he won't seek reelection after Tuesday's report he allegedly pressured a woman he had an extramarital affair with to get an abortion. Murphy said in a statement he "will take personal time to seek help as my family and I continue to work through our personal difficulties." Monopoly Man Photobombs Equifax Hearing: Amanda Werner, Campaign Manager with Americans for Financial Reform and Public Citizen, dressed as the Monopoly man and photobombed former Equifax CEO Richard Smith's testimony before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Werner told CNN: "I am dressed as the Monopoly Man to call attention to Equifax and Wells Fargo's use of forced arbitration as a get-out-of-jail-free card for massive misconduct. They use these ripoff clauses buried in the fine print to ensure that consumers can't join together to hold them accountable in court." | | Credit: Mark WIlson/Getty Images "Tonight Show" Writers Write Hillary Thank You Notes: Hillary Clinton was a guest on the show last night, and its female writers did their own version of Jimmy Fallon's thank you note segment for her. (The most clever was "Call me day or night and I will be there with a gallon of ice cream and two spoons to tell you, 'girl, you are so much better than him.'"). Miley Cyrus also wrote her own note and got choked up reading it. | | | | | |
