What the White House Press Corps is Talking About: Steve Bannon on Capitol Hill today, talking to the House Intelligence Committee about the Russian investigation. **Today's special briefing guest is the President's doctor, Ronny L. Jackson, who will outline in detail the state of Trump's physical health after his checkup last week. CNN's own Dr. Sanjay Gupta is going to be there so we get the straight scoop. The briefing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.** White House Women's Conference: Today at the White House there will also be a Conversations with the Women of America meet-up situation. I don't know much about it because it's not open to the media, but Sarah Sanders this morning said there are more than 200 women on the WH campus who are attending. In addition to staff such as Sanders, Hope Hicks, Kellyanne Conway and, of course, Ivanka Trump, there also will be visiting industry and business leaders -- they'll all attend panels focusing on issues like the opioid crisis, the economy and national security. One woman *not* going (even though it's in the SAME BUILDING)? First lady Melania Trump. 🤔 But First, Tweets: Trump was up early with the border security tweets, tying it in to his feelings about immigration and the looming government shutdown. He also watched a little "Fox & Friends" because "executive time," guys. Jared Kushner Warned About Wendi Deng Murdoch? The Wall Street Journal yesterday had another scoop about West Wing world, this time a piece about Kushner being warned about Rupert Murdoch's ex-wife, Wendi Deng Murdoch, who is a close friend of Ivanka Trump. Murdoch, WSJ says, was flagged by US officials as possibly working on intelligence efforts for China. It's sort of a convoluted story, worth reading though, but the most interesting part to me was how close the Chinese came to being allowed to build a ginormous structure at the National Arboretum, which came under scrutiny because it might have been essentially a flower-wall Trojan horse? | | Credit: wsj.com Our Daily Melania: So, let's say at some point Melania divorces her husband. What would happen? The kind folks at Town & Country have a story in the February issue that answers that very question, with experts weighing in on things like prenup, division of art and property, and alimony. While it's completely a make-believe scenario, it's kind of fascinating to envision how a divorce between the two could play out. It's Our One-Year Anniversary!: Today marks one year since Hunter and I walked through the doors of CNN and took off on this very cool job adventure that has, at least for me, been one of the most incredible experiences of my long career. (I've got a few years on Hunter, ahem.) I remember how nervous we were before we started that first day; we felt like the kids going to visit our parents at work or something. I took this picture right before we walked inside. I love it -- not because of what the angle does to my face, thank you very much -- but because our expressions are so excited, nervous, happy, trying to be cool and, most of all, pinch me. | | Dress Like the First Lady: Melania Trump, as we know, LOVES a good coat, and her outerwear yesterday was no exception. She returned from a long weekend at Mar-a-Lago wearing a black, camel and gray color-block coat by Acne Studios, a label that made another coat of hers that I loved, the dusty pink one she wore in October to the nomination ceremony of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. But I digress. Last night, touching down on the White House South Lawn, Melania *had her arms through the sleeves* of this one, available here for $750 (that's half off!). | | Credit: Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images, net-a-porter.com | | What Washington is Talking About: We're now four days away from a possible government shutdown. Steve Bannon is on the Hill today for a closed-door meeting with the House Intel Committee (no doubt his comments in "Fire and Fury" will come up), and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is being questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee about DACA. What America is Talking About: Kim and Kanye's surrogate has given birth to their third child, TMZ reports, search interest in "Tide PODS" peaked last night, and CVS announced it would put a "CVS Beauty Mark" label on images in its store that have not been altered. What Salt Lake City is Talking About: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Russell M. Nelson, 93 and a former member of the Church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will succeed Thomas S. Monson as 17th president of the Church. Monson died earlier this month at the age of 90. Poll of the Day: A survey by the Knight Foundation in partnership with Gallup found 84% of American adults believe the news media is "critical" or "very important" to our democracy, but only 28% believe the news media is doing "very well" or "well" at supporting our democracy. Here's the breakdown on how well Americans think the press is doing by party: | | Credit: Gallup Stormy Daniels' Friend on Her Alleged Trump Affair: Alana Evans was on "Megan Kelly Today" and spoke about what her friend, adult actor Stormy Daniels, told her about meeting then-reality star Trump in 2006. She said: "Having her tell me the next day when I asked, 'How did it go?,' and she says, 'Well picture this: Donald Trump chasing me around the bedroom in his tighty whities,' isn't something you ever forget." | | Credit: NBC How NBA Players Commemorated MLK Day: Players wore shirts at games last night to mark the day. "The late-night talk show has turned into a court of sorts," he said. "Nowadays, we have to pick a side, I guess. People now demand that you lead a public flogging. And if you do it for some and you don't do it for others, you're wrong." Kimmel also said after his monologue following the mass shooting in his hometown of Las Vegas, his producer got a tip from a man who dresses as the Hulk for tourist photos on Hollywood Blvd. The man said that another man -- who dresses as Batman -- bought a gun to shoot Kimmel. The show's security team posted flyers warning about the man who allegedly purchased a gun, and he was later arrested. | | Credit: Conde Nast Tiffany Trump Played Flower Girl: Tiffany Trump was in Las Vegas over the holiday weekend, celebrating friend Andrew Warren's birthday and attending a wedding of two friends held at the same chapel in which Britney Spears married her friend Jason Alexander. That marriage lasted for 55 hours before it was annulled in 2004. Here she is with Warren and EJ Johnson, the son of Magic Johnson and former star of the E! show "Rich Kids of Beverly Hills" (which was canceled in 2016), in a photo tagged at the Cosmo: | | Credit: @adwarren/Instagram And here she is playing flower girl at the wedding, pulling flowers out of what appears to be a turquoise bag from Tiffany's, her namesake: | | Credit: @petermbrant/Instagram The wedding was for Quentin Esme Brown and Peter Cary Peterson, who both posted explanations for what Brown called an "unconventional, yet unconditional" marriage. Peterson wrote: "I'd like to set the record straight. Esme and I got married in Las Vegas this weekend. For over ten years we have been discussing this. This was a sober decision that we planned over the weekend. Many of you know that Esme and I have been best friends since we were kids. Was this spur of the moment? Yes. But we have talked about this for ten years. Esme and I have never been romantically involved. We will continue to date others and live our lives. I understand many people will not understand or agree with this, but Esme and I have taken a progressive step towards what we believe marriage should be. I need to be constantly evolving, growing, and progressing. This is something I apply to every part of my life. We did this because we wanted to finalize our commitment to each other as life partners and best friends. Life is short, and I just want to be happy."
