For Mendbayar, throat singing is more than a technically impressive performance style; it's a source of profound happiness and a way to share the beauty of his native Mongolia.  This Great Big Story was inspired by Genesis.  In Colombia, This Dessert Honors a Country's History Everlinda Salgado Herrera is proud to be from San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, believed to be the first town in the Americas liberated from slavery. Legend has it that, after abolition, residents named a delicious, coconut-laden treat "alegría" to honor the sweet taste of freedom.
