What America is Talking About:
  • An arrest has been been made in connection with the suspicious packages.
  • It's 11 days until the midterm election.
  • North Dakota's Democratic Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp raised an incredible $12.5 million after voting "no" on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.
  • Michael Bloomberg has given $43 million to super PACs supporting Democrats in the first two weeks of October.
  • A painting made by French art collective Obvious using an AI program created by a 19-year-old just sold for $432,000 at Christie's.
  • A group of kindergartners at Hickerson Elementary School in Tennessee performed "Happy Birthday" in sign language for custodian James Anthony, who is hearing impaired and has worked at the school for more than two decades. ❤️

Poll of the Day:
A majority of Americans believe the country needs a third party. According to a Gallup poll released today, 57% of Americans believe the Democratic and Republican parties do such a poor job that a third party is needed, a trend that has continued since 2012, when Americans were about evenly split on the need.

Man Arrested in Connection With Suspicious Packages:
Federal authorities have arrested a man in Plantation, Florida in connection with the suspicious explosive packages, sources told CNN. Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said there will be a news conference at 2:30 p.m. The man, Cesar Sayoc, is in his 50s and has a criminal history. A van in Plantation covered in stickers that appeared to be political was covered in a blue tarp and towed to the FBI field office in Miramar, Florida.

Two new packages have been found, bringing the total to at least 12. One -- which was found in Florida -- was addressed to Democratic Sen. Cory Booker at his Camden, New Jersey, office, the other to former National Intelligence Chief James Clapper at CNN's New York bureau and found at a New York post office.

Trump Responds:
Two days after calling for the nation to come together, the President tweeted today at 3 a.m. his criticism of "lowly rated CNN" and then, shortly after 10 a.m., he tweeted that the "this 'Bomb' stuff" (quotation marks and unnecessary capitalization his) was slowing Republican momentum. Yes, I'm serious.

Speaking after the arrest at the White House, Trump said, "these terrorizing acts are despicable and have no place in the country" and said he was "committed to doing everything in my power to stop it."

Trump's Plan to Deny Asylum at the Border:
Trump reportedly is considering a proposal similar to his administration's travel bans that would bar Central Americans from seeking asylum. For those in the caravan with phones following @realDonaldTrump, he tweeted Thursday, "To those in the Caravan, turnaround, we are not letting people into the United States illegally. Go back to your Country and if you want, apply for citizenship like millions of others are doing!"

According to the Department of Homeland Security, for one to apply for asylum, they actually must be in the US. "To apply for asylum in the U.S., you must be physically present in the U.S. or seeking entry into the U.S. at a port of entry," the DHS website states.

The caravan, by the way, is about 1,000 miles away from the border and not expected to reach the US by Election Day.

Kris Wishes Kanye Would "Share Some of That Stuff Privately":
We finally know what Kris Jenner thinks about Kanye West's White House visit. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Jenner reportedly said she saw the meeting "after the fact" and she called it "spontaneous."

"He was sharing thoughts and things of himself that I would rather he share some of that stuff privately," she said. "He definitely has his own thoughts and opinions and he gets very excited about that. You've known him a long time, I've known him a long time, and he does have different sides to him. And this is a side that nobody's seen before."

I Fell For Trump on Transgender Rights, Caitlyn Jenner Says:
Caitlyn Jenner has given up on Trump and transgender rights. In an op-ed in today's issue of The Washington Post, Jenner wrote that after Trump's election, "I saw fertile ground for change within the Republican Party on LGBTQ issues," but, "sadly, I was wrong." Jenner wrote that the trans community is "relentlessly attacked" by Trump and mentioned his administration's proposal to define gender at birth and ban trans service members in the military. "The world needs to hear us," she wrote. "The world needs to know us. We will not be erased."
