On Today's Show

On GPS at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN:

First, Fareed gives his take on how President Trump's foreign policy provokes anti-American responses and nationalism across the world.

Popular opinion has turned against Trump in friendly countries, while adversaries follow Trump's lead and pursue their own interests. "It is a world with more instability, less cooperation, and fewer opportunities for America—and it is the direct, logical consequence of Donald Trump's philosophy of 'America first,'" Fareed says.

Next, as the US ramps up pressure on Iran, where are things headed? We'll discuss the situation with CNN Chief National Security Correspondent Jim Sciutto and author and New Yorker contributing writer Robin Wright.

We'll also hear from Sciutto how Russia and China are waging a multifaceted "shadow war" on America, on fronts like cyber, space, and territorial expansions in their regions—the topic of his new book, The Shadow War: Inside Russia's and China's Secret Operations to Defeat America.

Next, is the US taking a reasonable approach in its trade negotiations with China? We'll examine those talks, and the complicated politics surrounding them, with Hudson Institute Senior Fellow and Director for Chinese Strategy Michael Pillsbury, former Australian prime minister and Asia Society Policy Institute President Kevin Rudd, and CNN Global Economics Analyst and Financial Times Global Business Columnist Rana Foroohar.

Our What in the World segment will look at criminally accused candidates. In India, nearly 20% of parliamentary candidates face criminal cases, and, oddly enough, criminally accused candidates are more likely to win; we'll examine why.

The New Yorker's Adam Gopnik will discuss his new book, A Thousand Small Sanities: The Moral Adventure of Liberalism, a vigorous defense of liberal democracy that grew from a conversation with his daughter. Finally, we'll look at declining support for South Africa's governing party, the African National Congress, and the problems that country has faced during the ANC's 25 years in power.
